September 12, 2017 @ 8:30 am - 12:00 pm
$21When Grief is Complicated: Hospice Foundation of America’s Annual “Living with Grief” Program
Most individuals cope with grief and loss in culturally appropriate ways and can fulfill
their social and workplace roles after only brief and intermittent impairment. However,
10 to 20 percent of individuals who experience loss experience more disabling
reactions, including:
» Complicated grief
» Post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD)
» Major depressive disorder
» Separation anxiety disorder
» Adjustment disorder
» Substance abuse
Complicated grief reactions may also be a factor in physical illness.
When Grief Is Complicated looks at how to identify disabling grief reactions and
when referrals to specially trained clinicians or professionals may be indicated and
necessary. Our expert panel includes:
» Kenneth J. Doka, Ph.D., M.Div.
Professor of Gerontology, College of New Rochelle Graduate School; Senior
Consultant, Hospice Foundation of America
» Robert A. Neimeyer, Ph.D.
Professor of Psychology, University of Memphis
» Therese A. Rando, Ph.D., B.C.E.T.S., B.C.B.T.
Clinical Psychologist in Warwick, RI; Clinical Director, Institute for the Study
and Treatment of Loss
