2018 Community Investment Process: People-Centered Request for Proposals

United Way is currently seeking proposals for its People-Centered Investment grant funding tier.  The RFP is intended to address key areas of need identified through the advancing proposals in the System Innovation Partnership tier and is best suited for programs that demonstrate strong alignment and effectiveness in addressing the following priority needs that are most complementary to the collaborative work that will be supported by United Way:

  • Provision of holistic family supports that help families with children meet their basic physical needs
  • Access to affordable, reliable housing
  • Access to healthy and affordable foods
  • Access to affordable, quality healthcare
  • Physical and mental health services
  • Health services for children and moms

The application is open now and will close on January 26, 2018 at noon.  You will need to submit agency/program information to Wendy Drewery,, by December 18th to gain access to the online grant application.

Foundation for Roanoke Valley Accepting Applications for the Winter Grants Cycle

Foundation for Roanoke Valley is accepting grant applications from local nonprofit organizations for three of its endowment funds. Interested organizations should check the Foundation’s website,, to determine eligibility and to learn how to apply.

Foundation for Roanoke Valley uses an online, internet-based grant application process. Applications for The Spetzler Fund, Roanoke Valley Children’s Fund, and the Phalia M. and Guy M. Kinder Fund must be submitted by 4 p.m. on January 12, 2018. Please note that if your organization received a grant from either of these funds in the previous year, all funds need to have been spent and final grant report submitted before applying again to the same fund this year.

Roanoke County Notice of Application Availability

Fiscal Year 2018-2019 Budget Development
Non-Profit Agency Funding

Each annual budget development cycle, the County of Roanoke considers funding requests from  local non-profit organizations who provide services to the citizens of the Roanoke Valley. The purpose of this correspondence is to inform your organization of the process for requesting funding from the County. Our records indicate that your organization has previously submitted an application to the County or would like to be considered for funding in the fiscal year 2018-2019 budget.

The County will open the application process at noon on Monday, December 11, 2017. Applications must be completed by noon on Friday, January 12, 2018 to be considered for funding in the fiscal year 2018-2019 budget. Similar to last year, all funding requests will be collected electronically using the e-CImpact on-line application.

In order to complete your electronic application, you will need a username and a password. To request your username and password, please contact Wendy Drewery via email at or by phone at (540) 283-2770. Please request your username and password no later than Monday, December 4, 2017. Please note, only staff members who will review
or submit the electronic application need to request a username and password.

The County of Roanoke Office of Management and Budget will hold a training session on Monday, December 11, 2017, at 11:00 a.m. in the Roanoke County Administration Building (5204 Bernard Drive, Roanoke, Virginia 24018). The session will focus only on completing and submitting the new application and not on the specifics of your agency’s funding request.
Attendance is recommended for agencies unfamiliar with the e-CImpact application process. Attendance at this meeting will not be a factor in considering fiscal year 2018-2019 funding requests.

City of Roanoke Mandatory Workshop Fiscal Year 2018-2019 Funding

Location: Noel C. Taylor Municipal Building, City Council Chambers

The City of Roanoke is conducting a mandatory workshop for all agencies and organizations requesting Fiscal Year 2018-2019 funding.  The workshop will be facilitated jointly by the Arts Commission, Human Services Advisory Board, and the Department of Management and Budget.

The workshop will be held on  Friday, December 1, 2017, at 9:00 a.m. in the City Council Chambers located on the fourth floor of the Noel C. Taylor Municipal Building at 215 Church Avenue, SW, Roanoke, VA.

If you are applying to the City for Human Services funding, this workshop is mandatory.
