A Change to Nonprofit Roanoke’s Job Board

As part of Nonprofit Roanoke’s ongoing commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion, we are evaluating our own practices, programs, resources, and services, listening and being responsive to our members, and as always, orienting ourselves toward leading practices.

There is a shift happening in the nonprofit and for-profit sectors toward more equitable hiring practices—cultivating more diverse candidate pools, banning salary history questions, and requiring salary transparency.

Below are just a few resources that speak to why it’s become a recommended and beneficial practice amongst various sectors, and amongst capacity building organizations like Nonprofit Roanoke, to disclose salary in job postings:

In an effort to move ever closer to equitable hiring practices, as of November 1, 2020, we will require organizations to include hourly wage and salary information to post to Nonprofit Roanoke’s Job Board. Our Jobs Board is one of the most visited pages on our website and has become a go-to in the region to post and search for nonprofit jobs.

Research has shown that the exclusion of salary information disproportionately impacts women and people of color. And it’s important to us to make the change toward requiring salary information as part of our equity work, and because we believe it benefits our members, nonprofit employees, and the nonprofit sector as a whole.

We encourage you to reach out if you have questions, concerns, feedback on how this change might affect your organization, or would just like to think through nonprofit hiring practices with us. We’re in it with you, and want to thank you for partnering with us in this work.

Sincerely,

The Nonprofit Roanoke Team
